Indentometer IDM 800
Assessing Skin Mechanical Skin Properties from a Different Angle
Advantages of the Indentometers
- Probes with 3 different pin diameters (2, 3 and 5 mm Ø) are available, suitable for various skin sites. The smaller the diameter, the deeper the pin goes into the skin when using the same force as the contact area with the skin is smaller.
- A special shaped probe for the firmness measurement of the scalp is available (pin 1 mm Ø).
- Easy to use and quick results
- All probes are connectable to the C+K MPA-systems (also side by side).
- Perfect addition to other elasticity measurement approaches (e.g. Cutometer®, etc.)
- The depth of the pin can be checked any time easily and quickly with a check calibration cap.
The Indentometer is connectable to the MPA systems (please see details in Basic Probe Systems).
Measurement Principle
The measurement principle is based on the force (by a spring) used on the small indenter of the probe to deform the skin. The device measures how the probe indenter displaces the skin. The penetration depth of the pin (displacement) is measured in mm (0-3 mm). The firmer/stiffer the skin, the less deep is the displacement by the pin.
The shape of the indenter has been deliberately chosen to be cylindrical and not roundish in order to allow absolute constant contact area.
Fields of Application
There are numerous applications possible:
- In efficacy testing and claim support (especially for firmness enhancing products for skin or scalp or anti-aging). Typical claims (examples) substantiated with the Indentometer: firmness enhancing, lifting, toning, anti-aging, improves softness (e.g. callus), improves stiffness/hardness (e.g. scar tissue), and more.
- Important in dermatological research of different skin diseases (e.g. scleroderma, etc.).
- It is used for clinical research of healing processes in wound and burns medicine.
- Use in clinical basic research of other medical research fields e.g. gynecology, diabetes, etc. Measurement on different surfaces is possible (e.g. textiles, plastic, food and many more).
